2014年3月18日 · It was January 1985 when Penn and Teller came to KCET to shoot a show called, "Penn & Teller Go Public." They were basically two unknown magicians whom our station manager, Stephen Kulczycki, happened to see perform in L.A. the previous fall. That is how fast the deal went together.

In 1985, KOCE’s volunteer organization, The Friends of KOCE, was formed and had over 100 members ready to support station fundraising and events. In 2004, KOCE become an independent community licensee, owned and operated by the KOCE-TV Foundation that was formed back in 1978 when it was incorporated as a non-profit.

In 1985, Jeff Smith began a series of Frugal Gourmet programs starting with entertaining and cooking with wine. In 1987, he produced a series on American cooking entitled "The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American", followed by "The Frugal Gourmet Cooks Three Ancient Cuisines" in 1989, and "The Frugal Gourmet on Our Immigrant Ancestors" in 1990.
