At Pearl Harbor, Japan’s most devastating aircraft was the Nakajima B5N2, also known as the “Kate” and the Type 97-3 Carrier Attack Aircraft. In the opening minutes of the attack, 40 Kates savaged Battleship Row with torpedoes. When they finished, Oklahoma and West Virginia had sunk, and California and Nevada were sinking.

In all 40 B5N1 Kates and 49 B5N2 Kates took part in the initial raid with 54 more B5N2s arriving in the second wave along with 26 Aichi D3A Val dive bombers.

An artifact from the upper surface of a B5N2 that the donor states is from the Kaga torpedo unit plane which crashed at the Navy hospital. The base coat is a color close to, but lighter than and more green than FS 16350 over sprayed with dark green in varying thickness. Darkest areas are close to FS 34064/34084.
