The Kenyah people, traditionally being swidden agriculturalists [5] and living in longhouses (uma dado'), [6] is an umbrella term for over 40 sub-groups that mostly share common migration histories, customs, and related dialects. Kenyah people lived in longhouses a small communities.

The Kenyah people are an indigenous group living in Borneo, numbering around 45,000. They traditionally practiced swidden agriculture in longhouses along river valleys in Sarawak, Malaysia and East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The Kenyah are native people of the island of Borneo. They live in the Indonesian part of the island and in the Malaysian province of Sarawak. The Kenyah belong to a group of peoples known collectively as the Dayak, which also includes their neighbors the Kayan.

"Kenyan-Kayan-Kajang" is a term referring to a complex of riverine culture groups living in Sarawak. The Kenyah and Kayan are the main groups, whereas the Kajang consist of a number of small groups that are assimilating to one or the other of the other two. There are numerous subgroups as well.

The Kenyah, also known as orang ulu – ‘upriver people’ along with their close neighbours the Kayan – are based in Sarawak and East Kalimantan the Malaysian and Indonesian sections of Borneo respectively.
