Kusasenrigahama (often called simply Kusasenri) is one of the main spots visitors to Aso come see. It is listed as a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument. Kusasenri lies at an altitude of 1130 meters above sea level and is made up of two volcanic craters sandwiched between Mt. Eboshi and Mt. Kishima.

Kusasenri is a vast grassy plain which offers great views of the volcanically active Nakadake Peak. Kusasenri also features a large pond and horses can be seen grazing on the land. This scenic location has become a popular feature of the Aso Geopark. Kusasenri offers a different landscape depending on the season.

The view of Kusasenri is one of the iconic scenes of Kumamoto; a vast emerald green grassland plateau with peacefully grazing cows and horses reflected in the still crater ponds on the top of the central peaks of Aso. The name Kusasenri 草千里 means a thousand leagues of grass and the peaceful vista today belies its violent history.

Kusasenri is what remains of a volcanic crater on the northern slope of Mount Eboshidake, one of the five peaks of Aso. It is a vast area, where the natural combination of 785,000 square meters of grasslands with ponds said to be formed of pooled rainwater create beautiful contrasts.
