The Landing Craft, Tank (LCT) (or tank landing craft, TLC) [1][2] was an amphibious assault craft for landing tanks on beachheads. They were initially developed by the Royal Navy and later by the United States Navy during World War II in a series of versions.

The LCT—or landing craft, tank—was built in a variety of sizes, the largest being 203 feet long. Many LCTs were modified for close-in fire support. More than 900 LCTs, in various forms, participated in the invasion of Normandy.

LCTs were the Navys all purpose general duty vessel. Besides carrying tanks ashore they were used for many different purposes. Some were converted and equiped with guns, others with rockets, while still others served as minesweepers. 26 MK5s were designated LCT (A), armored.
