Being new to modern PC building I only just now found out about the Intel X299 chipset. It seems that chipset supports Intel's X-core processors. The processors can have anywhere from 4 to 18 cores and run at varying speeds. There's i5 processors, i7 processors, and i9 processors. All of them use the same physical socket connection, the LGA 2066.

This is a fantastic motherboard from ASUS. My major complaint would be the single USB2 port header on the board, which sucks when you have an all-in-one liquid cooler, an internal fan controller and front USB2 ports you'd like to use.

Great budget board. Awesome bios when updated to the latest 2020 version. Love the dark, minimalist look. Have not had an issue with VRM temps yet - they reach 70C under full load but that is with no direct airflow and I believe the sensor on this board is at the warmest location.
