Steam Locomotive #35, which was constructed in 1928. It is the last steam locomotive to operate on Long Island, having been retired in 1955. Donated by the LIRR to Nassau County, it was on exhibit at Salisbury Park (Eisenhower Park) for years, but was later moved to the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum.

No. 35 is one of three PRR-built G5s preserved, making the G5 the most represented Pennsy-built steam locomotive in preservation. The two others are former LIRR No. 39, undergoing restoration in Riverhead, Long Island, and PRR No. 5741, which is preserved at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

I repainted (and modified some details) on my MTH Pennsy G5s into a model of LIRR #30 (I have a photo of it at Oyster Bay with the small tender like the PRR version has). For the color I painted it Scalecoat Detail Black. On their recent runs MTH factory painted LIRR G5s and H10s black as well, so I guess black is correct. Stuart

2025年3月15日 · All the G5's spent their final weeks of service running commuters out of the Oyster Bay yard and terminal, where the OBRM is located today. The MTA has since torn up the yard and replaced it with a far more modern facility, lacking the old-time charm, but no doubt serving the trains they are running today with more facility.
G5s turned out to be the heaviest and most powerful 4-6-0 class ever built. Ninety more of these locomotives were produced in Juniata between the years of 1923 and 1925, for use on Pennsylvania Railroad lines. The first G5 to be manufactured at the Juniata Shops was number 987, plate No. 3769.
