Smaller drive wheels than an Atlantic and the lack of a trailing truck concentrated more engine weight on the drivers and produced an engine with great power and acceleration but a lower top speed — ideal qualities for the constant stop-and-start duties of a commuter engine.

LIRR service runs 24/7, with different schedules depending on destination and time of day. Our system includes over 700 miles of track on 11 different branches, stretching from Montauk on the eastern tip of Long Island to Penn Station in Manhattan, approximately 120 miles away.

The LIRR acquired their H10s engines from the Pennsylvania Railroad between 1928 and 1930. Only one H10s that the LIRR owned was built by the PRR, however ALL were previously OWNED by the PRR and were assigned PRR road numbers.

For sale is an HO scale H10 steam locomotive by MTH. It is in the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) livery and has DCC and sound. It has seen very little use and I just need to thin down my collection of engines. It comes in the original box. The couplers have been replace with Kadees.
