The LAV III is the third generation of the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) family of armored personnel carriers built by General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada (GDLS-C), a London, Ontario, based subsidiary of General Dynamics.

The LAV III is the last derivative of the combat proven USMC LAV armored vehicle to be in active service well into the 21st century. It has been designed to provide enhanced survivability thanks to an increased armor and mobility as well as the capability to accommodate new weapon systems.

The LAV III was designed as a response to a growing customer need for greater payload and protection levels. Since being introduced, the LAV III fleet has been sold to various customers in a wide range of variants. To date, over 4,200 vehicles have been ordered, with the majority being Strykers for the United States Army.
