I'm a beginner of LBRY and want to learn how LBRY sends/receives data from the LBRY Desktop to its chain. From my understanding, the desktop connects to the LBRY network using port 50001, so I tried to download the source code from these projects and run them locally:

I had an idea for another type of LBRY client that, if developed, could be really useful and may help fight censorship, expand content freedom (and LBRY usage) a lot.

LBRY is a protocol, and LBRYtv is just another client app for browsing and watching videos on the LBRY network, it supports signing in with existing LBRY/Odysee account email. I agree this confuses many people.

2021年7月15日 · Since there's still no official Odysee app for Android, there's a great substitute now: All you have to do is to open the website in Google Chrome browser, and choose "Install App" from the 'three dots' menu in the corner. That's it. You can see a new app in your phone now, it works as well as any native android application.

As far as I understand the lbry app is essentially p2p, but it sounds like videos are also hosted on lbry servers as well as a sort of bootstrap. By default every video you watch is downloaded to your machine and you subsequently host that file while the app is running.

2021年1月17日 · I generally don't watch much video on my phone, but I tried the LBRY app some time ago. It seemed to drain the battery even though I didn't use it that often. I guess all of that blockchain stuff would keep running in the background.

2024年3月24日 · The LBRY blockchain is still alive as its a decentralized protocol where anyone can share information. Many people (like myself) are hosting videos through the LBRY desktop application. This means that Odysee or other LBRY related servers don't need as much bandwidth. The LBRY community itself can keep this project going long past the judgment day.
