The Leclerc is a third-generation French main battle tank developed and manufactured by KNDS France. It was named in honour of Marshal Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, a commander of the Free French Forces, who led the 2nd Armoured Division in World War II.

The Leclerc Séries XXI is the third variant of the Leclerc main battle tank family. It has significant enhancements and improvements over its predecessor, the Leclerc Séries 2.

Leclerc has modular composite armour and the Séries XXI variant armour includes titanium and semi-reactive layers. The French Leclerc MBT is powered by a an 8-cylinder 1,500 hp SACM (now Wärtsilä) V8X-1500 Hyperbar diesel engine.

SXXI version include titanium, tungsten and semi-reactive layers. The Leclerc, is a main battle tank (MBT) built by GIAT, now Nexter of France. It was named in honour of General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque who led the French element of the drive towards Paris while in command of the Free French 2nd Armoured Division (2ème DB) in World War II.
