In January 1989, the C33 went on sale and was now only available as a four-door hardtop. The base engine carried over from the previous generation, offering a 1.8-litre four; the available options consisted of a 2-litre six (SOHC, DOHC, or DOHC Turbo) and a 2.8-litre diesel inline-six.
