The Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra was an American civil passenger and cargo aircraft built by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation during the late 1930s. An outgrowth of the earlier Model 10 Electra, the Model 14 was also developed into larger, more capable civil and military versions.

By this time, Lockheed’s Model 14 Super Electras were selling well, especially to foreign commercial carriers. Lockheed pitted its Super Electra directly against the Douglas DC-3, offering an aircraft that boasted a 45-mph speed advantage and new Fowler flaps, which reduced approach and landing speeds.

Despite impressive performance, the Lockheed 14 met only limited success as an airliner. The real significance of the ship lay in a string of modifications which carried Lockheed production through WW II; the Hudson, Lodestar, Ventura, and Harpoon all owed their origin to the 14.

Designed to compete against the DST/ DC-2/DC-3 series being developed by the Douglas company, the Lockheed 14 Super Electra failed, by reason of its smaller capacity, to present any significant competition.
