France 3 is a French public television channel owned by France Télévisions launched in 1972 as the third channel of the ORTF (Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française). Namely, it was the very first french channel to launch in color, as the second channel had existed since 1964 when it made the switch to color broadcasts in 1967.

ORTF ceased to be at the end of 1974, and their former channels changed their names on January 6, 1975. The third channel would be operated by France Régions 3 , or FR3 for short, which would also take over ORTF's regional offices.

The design of the ORTF logo was mostly influenced by the "three ellipses" symbol of its predecessor, with the addition of the letter "O" to create a fourth ellipse. The logo evokes both the concept of radio waves and an image of an electron, symbolising the Atomic Age.

Visuals: On a white background, three circles (in red, green and blue) fuse into a single black circle and the ORTF logo forms on it, before it gets surrounded by multiple colorful petals. Then it cuts to a series of gaping holes moving out on a black background, creating color illusions.
