The Public Works and Water Resources Section provides engineering support and coordination for the eight (8) non-coastal levee districts in northern Louisiana. These services include planning, designing, and, providing advice on operation and maintenance of a multitude of levees, canals, and structures constructed with local funds.

From the northernmost reaches of Louisiana to the water of the Gulf of Mexico, our members advocate their own districts and the cause of flood control throughout the state. Each district sends representatives to board meetings in Baton Rouge and to other functions that are relevant to the board’s tasks.

Louisiana Levee Inspection Program. Federal regulations require that all federal levees shall be inspected quarterly, at a minimum. DOTD has implemented a program, utilizing the latest GPS, GIS and database technologies to assist local levee owners with these inspections.

Louisiana Levee Safety Program. The Levee Safety Unit is reponsible to ensure that the Non-Coastal Levee Districts, and other Flood Control Entities, establish and maintain an Inspection and Evaluation Program for their flood protection system infrastructure.
