The LVT-2 was the basic design for a series of vehicles used during WWII. This family of vehicles included the LVTA1, LVTA2, LVT4, LVTA4, and LVTA5.

The Amphibious Vehicle, Tracked (LVT or AMTRAC) is an amphibious warfare vehicle and amphibious landing craft, introduced by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. (The USN and USMC use "L" to designate Amphibious vessels, also called "L class".)

Armoured version of the LVT-2 developed for Infantry transport with an armoured cab and hull. It was armed with one .50 cal heavy machine gun mounted on a skate rail with and two .30 cal machines guns on pivot mounted with armoured shields. Despite the extra weight it could still carry 18 fully armed troops at a similar speed as the LVT-2.

LVT (A)2 was an LVT2 with the 10- and 14-gauge steel on the cab front and rear, hull front, and pontoon sides replaced with armor plate. The armored cab was fitted with a roof with two hatches equipped with periscopes, and there was a single observation panel in the left front side of the cab that the driver could open for direct vision.

The Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT), also known as the amphibious tractor (Amtrac, Amptrac), was essential to U.S. forces during World War II (WWII) in the Pacific Theater. The vessel possessed the ability to travel both in and out of the water and was one of the first true amphibious vehicles.
