2021年4月20日 · Somewhere near Marble Mountain, Việt Nam, an LVTP-5 gets its motor pulled by an LVTR-1 (Landing Vehicle Tank Retriever-1), possibly 1968.

LVTR1 was the recovery and maintenance variant of the LVTP5. A winch was installed with a maximum single-line pull capacity of 45,000lb (20,400kg), and the power for this was provided by the Willys 4-cylinder 48hp engine common to the M38A1 quarter-ton truck.

The LVT-1 had a maximum speed of 12 mph (19 km/h) on land or 6.9 mph (11.1 km/h) in water; and a range of 210 miles (340 km) on land or 60 miles (100 km) in water. No armor or weapons were included in its design as its role was cargo transport from ship to shore.

LVTR1 was the recovery and maintenance variant of the LVTP5. A 60,000lb (27,000kg) winch was installed, and the power for this was provided by a Willys 4 cylinder 48hp engine from the M38A1 quarter-ton truck. A boom was mounted on the front of the vehicle to assist in removing engines or other loads, and the crew chief acted as the crane operator.

The LVTP-5 was an evolution of the LVT-1 to LVT-4 World War II-era landing vehicle tracked series, but was considerably larger and could carry 30-34 combat-armed troops. A smaller design based on the M59 APC was also produced as the LVT-6, but only a few were built.

2025年2月11日 · LVTR-1 was equipped with a 27-ton winch, and M38A1 was used to operate the winch. A 48-horsepower engine from a ¼-ton truck was mounted as an auxiliary unit. A boom is mounted on the front of the vehicle body to lift the engine or other items, and a step commander is in charge of operating the crane.

The LVT-1 sported a top speed of 12 miles per hour (19 km/h), and armament was either 2 x 0.30 (7.62 mm) caliber general purpose machine guns or 2 x 0.50 (12.7 mm) caliber heavy machine guns mounted on rails or pintle mounts, with optional limited shielding.

2018年10月8日 · The LVTC-5 was a command vehicle variant with increased communications equipment while the LVTH-6 became a fire support platform mounting a serviceable 105mm howitzer. Some 210 of the latter were produced. Sixty-five of the LVTR-1 armored recovery vehicles were introduced as were 41 of the LVTE-1 engineering type vehicles.
