M-390 Red Stoneware - Bray Clay
Plainsman Clays’ M-390 Red Stoneware is a smooth cone 6 red stoneware that is particularly well-suited for throwing. Due to its high iron content, we recommend firing M390 Red Stoneware in oxidation and no higher than cone 6. When fired in oxidation to cone 6 it has a shrinkage of 10% and absorption of <2%.

M390 Plainsman Clay, 20 kg - Sounding Stone
Very plastic high iron clay body. Smooth in texture, it is the darkest firing of the medium temperature red bodies. Plainsman moist clays are water-based and packaged in a 20 kg (44 lb) box. Each box contains two individually bagged 10 kilogram pugged blocks. Plainsman Clays are ready to use out of the box, no preparation is required.

M390 fires dark red and is the material of choice for dark burning functional ware. It contains more of our native Redstone material than any other body. It is one of several bodies that we process to 60 mesh particle size and is intended to produce ware with a clean, unblemished glaze surface.

It generates significant slip during throwing if too soft. Care and attention during drying are a must, especially with larger pieces, flat plates, shallow bowls, and sculptural ware.
