The US M41 Walker Bulldog Tank was the first post war light tank to enter production, replacing the M24 Chaffee, which had served in WW2. Development started in 1947 under the designation T37. It was the first tank where the vehicle was built around the engine, rather that trying to later find a suitable engine for a completed design.

This 90-mm gun was the original main armament for the M48 series tank. It fired the same ammunition as its predecessor, the M36 gun mounted in the M47 tank, but weighed less.

The M41 was designed and developed as a direct successor to the WWII M24 Chaffee light tank. The M24 played an important role in the war, but its main gun soon proved quite ineffective against the more powerful German tank designs of the later period, so its tactical range was inherently limited.
