Part of this was due to the decision to sell over 220,000 brand newly produced M35 helmets to the Nationalist Chinese government between 1935 and 1937, not to mention smaller numbers of helmets being sent to Spain and Finland.

I explicitly kept M40 DD out of the above list as for me at this point there is no proof Factory DD M40 were ever made. There are no decals or other markings, and we can find no evidence that this helmet ever had them. This stamped sheet steel construction helmet retains over 90% of its original textured "Feldgrau" paint.

The helmet has a very attractive three-color camouflage scheme composing predominantly of a tan base with splotches of green and red added. The colors contrast very well with each other and the helmet shows a very good amount of shelf-appeal as a result.
