2019年4月8日 · This stunning image, snapped using the Wide Field Planetary Camera on NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, shows a striking, mysterious dark “X” silhouetted across a galaxy’s nucleus. The galaxy in question, M51, is home to the mysterious cross structure at its very core. But fear not, it’s not a sign of the end of times, nor is aliens.

In September 2020, the detection by the Chandra X-ray Observatory [38] of a candidate exoplanet, named M51-ULS-1b, orbiting the high-mass X-ray binary M51-ULS-1 in this galaxy was announced. If confirmed, it would be the first known instance of an extragalactic planet: a planet outside the Milky Way.
