The MFJ magnetic loop is my first choice recommendation for anyone who wants or needs to set up a covert or stealth ham radio station. It can be used outdoors, permanently mounted or on a temporary stand, or indoors.

I soon discovered the MFJ-1786 and MFJ-1788 mag loop antennas were each rated at up to 150 watts. I decided the MFJ-1788 was appropriate as the 40M through 15M bands were most desirable for me, and I could operate QRP to 100 watts with my Yaesu FT-857D transceiver. A new MFJ-1788, however, was cost-prohibitive.

The MFJ-1782X Super Hi-Q Loop Antenna is exactly the same antenna as the MFJ-1786 but the control box does not have VSWR/Power metering or the auto band selected mode. In all other respects it is identical to the MFJ-1786 using the coax cable to send the up/down information to the antenna tuning capacitor in the loop.
