The StG 44 (abbreviation of Sturmgewehr 44, "assault rifle 44") [a] is a German assault rifle developed during World War II by Hugo Schmeisser. It is also known by its early designations as the MP 43 and MP 44 ( Maschinenpistole 43 and 44 ).

MP43开始生产，经过一些小的修改（降低枪托高度、握把面板材料从木材改为复合材料、更大的枪管螺母等）演变成 MP44 ，最后发展成Sturmegewehr 44 (STG44)，这是第一款被广泛使用的突击步枪。
