2023年3月30日 · The Bronze Medal of Horsepower goes to the one-of-a-kind Montreal Locomotive Works M-640 diesel, numbered 4744 for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Equipped with a unique 18-cylinder 251F prime mover, the M-640 is considered to be the most powerful single-engined model in the history of the American Locomotive Company.

2007年11月18日 · I thought the first North American freight AC loco was the Brown-Boveri retrofit of a MLW C640. I didn’t think Bombarier had anything to do with the retrofit. The second was the Brown-Boveri retorfit of AMTK F40PH #202 .

The biggest Alco in Canada out on the road! CP MLW M640 4744, built at the end of the horsepower wars of the 1970's, spent many years as a mechanical oddity in CP's fleet. When an electrical fire side-lined her in the early 1980's, most observers thought her days were over.

Notes : Built by MLW (1971). Fire damaged (1981), rebuilt in 1984 with 4 AC traction motors, with Brown-Boveri electrical equipment on A1A trucks (centre axle unpowered). Retired (1992), donated to the Canadian Railway Museum in Delson, QC (1998).

2024年8月26日 · The Montreal Locomotive Works, often referred to by its initials as MLW, was a long-established manufacturer of locomotives dating back to the late 19th century. During the early 20th century the newly formed American Locomotive Company (Alco) acquired MLW's predecessor as a means of opening new possibilities in the Canadian market.

Production of the Century Series began in 1963 and ended in 1972. MLW and Goodwin continued to build Century locomotives after Alco ended locomotive production and shut down in early 1969. A total of 841 locomotives, in eleven variants, were produced over the ten years of production.
