MR-guided focused ultrasound is a nonsurgical technique to destroy targeted areas of tissue without harming the surrounding tissue. During MRgFUS, 1,000 sound wave beams pass through your bone, fat, muscle, and skin to reach their target. The ultrasound raises the temperature of the targeted area and causes a burn (lesion) in the tissue.

MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS), also referred to as high-intensity focused ultrasound, is a noninvasive, incisionless procedure. This therapy uses highly focused sound waves as a form of energy to treat essential tremor and symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease, including tremor, rigidity, and slowness of movement.
