Mount Iwaki is a roughly symmetrical andesitic stratovolcano, rising in relative isolation from the plains at the base of Tsugaru Peninsula. Its summit crater is two kilometers wide, and it has three lava domes on the western and southern flanks.

Mt. Iwaki is located in the southwestern part of Tsugaru Plain. It is the highest mountain in the prefecture with an elevation of 1,625 meters. The apple field and rural landscape with Mt. Iwaki extending out in the background is one of the most beautiful sights in Aomori.

Approaching the town of Hirosaki, one thing dominates your view: Mount Iwaki. It rises alone from the plain, a beautiful composite volcano. If you can get to the Tsura-no-Mai bridge, the mountain makes a lovely site reflected in the lake.
