2024年1月5日 · It's common for men to greet each other with a head nod, while women often smile at each other as they pass -- women don't use the 'head nod' as a greeting. You may also notice that the 'head nod' has two major variations. I've noticed one group of males which always nods 'down', and another group which nods 'up'.

The Nod is a mode of distanced acknowledgement between males. A wave and a smile doesn't cut it. Strangely, I didn't develop "the nod" until about 5 years or so ago (I suspect I was being subtly chivvied into adopting it), though now I'm outright rejecting it.

The guy nod is convenient, I'm used to it, and it's not a source of dysphoria for me, so I'm not going to change it to seem more feminine to other people.
