MATH 130 is College Algebra. It includes simplifying algebraic expressions, linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, polynomials and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of linear equations and inequalities, and more.

This course introduces students to mathematical modeling using linear, exponential, and power functions and systems of equations. Algebraic and geometric techniques are developed. Applications to the life, social, and management sciences include Linear Programming and Difference Equations.

Study of how people learn and understand mathematics, based on research in mathematics, mathematics education, psychology, and cognitive science. This course is designed to prepare undergraduate mathematics majors to become excellent high school mathematics teachers.

Apply two distinct methods to find the LCM and GCF of two whole numbers. Classify and solve application problems involving the four arithmetic operations. Communicate mathematical ideas effectively using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Construct and interpret Venn diagrams.

Trigonometric functions of real numbers and angles, their graphs and periodicity; reduction formulas; functions of multiple angles; identities and equations; radian measure; inverse functions; and solution of triangles. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Intermediate Algebra or equivalent, or placement by other measures as applicable.

We will cover most of chapters 1--5 of A First Course in Probability, 9th ed, by Sheldon Ross. This covers basic combinatorics, the primary discrete and continuous probability distributions, and concepts such as the expectation and conditional probability. The text is optional since all homework and sketch notes will be provided.

Calculus permits the computation of velocities and other instantaneous rates of change by a limiting process called differentiation. The same process also solves “max-min” problems: how to maximize profit or minimize pollution. A second limiting process, called integration, permits the computation of areas and accumulations of income or medicines.

Presents several classical geometries, these being the affine, projective, Euclidean, spherical and hyperbolic geometries. They are viewed from many different perspectives, some historical and some very topical. Emphasis on reading and writing proofs.
