The Megamycete acts as the storage for the consciousness of all the people absorbed and assimilated by the Mold, and allows Miranda to control the rest of the Mold/those infected with the Mold.

In Shadows of Rose, part of Black God survived and was collected as a sample for research. It contained copies of Miranda, Ethan , who I guess were the last to be catalogued so the best preserved.
