Melechesh is an ethnically Assyrian black metal band that originated in Jerusalem and is currently based in Amsterdam. Ashmedi started the band as a solo project in 1993. In the following year, guitarist Moloch and drummer Lord Curse were added to the line-up.

Melechesh set to create what they call Mesopotamian Metal; a cosmic, occult, Sumerian/Mesopotamian themed extreme metal band rooted in black metal and thrash with Mediterranean and mid/near east sounds seamlessly amalgamated. Melechesh have since became an international musical and a cultural phenomenon and is a force to be reconned with.

Melechesh means "King of Fire" in Hebrew. It's pronounced as "Meh-lek-esh" by the band, though modern Hebrew pronunciation for the "ch" would be similar to the one in Scottish "loch".
