Merzbow (Japanese: メルツバウ, Hepburn: Merutsubau) is a Japanese noise project started in 1979 by Masami Akita, [1][2] best known for a style of harsh noise music. Since 1980, Akita has released over 500 recordings and collaborated with numerous artists.

1981年，秋田昌美开始以“Merzbow”为艺名开始创作。 Merzbow来源于著名拼贴艺术家柯特·舒维特（Kurt Schwitters 1887-1948）集装置、拼贴和建筑艺术于一体的著名艺术品“莫斯堡”（Merzbau），而“莫斯堡”的另一个名字叫做“情欲秘密的教堂”。

The name "Merzbow" comes from German artist Kurt Schwitters' artwork, "Merzbau”. This was chosen to reflect Akita's dada influence and junk art aesthetic.
