The MG 13 (shortened from German Maschinengewehr 13) is a German light machine gun developed by converting the Dreyse Model 1918 heavy water-cooled machine gun into an air-cooled version. [1]

The Maschinengewehr 13, or MG 13, machine guns were developed in 1928 by taking WW1-vintage water-cooled weapons and upgrading them into air-cooled weapons. They were the standard light machine guns of the Germany Army from 1930 until 1934 when they were replaced by the MG 34 design.
