He was all alone, outnumbered, in-shock after witnessing the abilities of Beast Titan, no Horsey, no ODM gear, and on top of that, severely injured. Even after that he braces himself for a final push that, alas, results in his demise.

Levi needed other’s help to get close, if Levi were where Mike was, he’d likely have given the beast titan a good fight. Of course it’d still be a coin flip, and if Levi’s in a coin flip, no one else would even have a chance, no matter your skill or strength or nose.

Mike does seem like a relatively cold and focused individual, but the moment isn’t driven home correctly because we’re only told so. Only directly before his death did we even get a glimpse of him actually being a badass soldier, and most of that was also skipped over and we only actually saw him kill one, and partially two.
