The MPi-KM is a East German license-manufactured version of the Soviet AKM assault rifle. After the German reunification, all variants of the MPi were removed from service, with most rifles being sold as surplus to the militaries of such countries as Finland and Turkey.

固定枪托的型号也与ak-74一样，名称为mpi-km74。不过护木、握把和枪托与mpi-km同样均为塑料制品。而折叠枪托型号的aks-74也是采用与mpi-kms的右侧折叠马镫形金属枪托。和苏联的原产型号一样，在机匣左侧有瞄准镜安装基座的型号都在后面加了个n，称为km-74n或kms-74n。
