NGC 1031 is a Spiral Galaxy located in the constellation of Horologium in the southern hemisphere. NGC 1031 is called NGC 1031 in the New General Catalogue (NGC). This catalogue is a list of deep space objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888 to update John Herschel's earlier work.

NGC 1031 is a Barred Spiral Galaxy in the Horologium constellation. NGC 1031 is situated south of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere. Given its B magnitude of 13.64, NGC 1031 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.

===== NGC 1031 30" (11/4/10 - Coonabarabran, 264x): fairly bright, fairly large, elongated 2:1 SSW-NNE, gradually increases to a small bright core and stellar nucleus. A mag 11.5 star lies 3.3' NNE. Forms a pair with fainter NGC 1025 2.7' W. Located 15' W of h3520 = 7.6/8.8 at 21" and 40' SW of mag 5.2 Zeta Hor.
