NGC 1073 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Cetus. The galaxy is estimated to be about 55 million light years from Earth, possess a disk spanning an estimated 80,000 light years in diameter, and likely contains a type of active core, called an HII nucleus.

Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is a similar barred spiral, and the study of galaxies such as NGC 1073 helps astronomers learn more about our celestial home.

NGC 1073 is a Galaxy in the Cetus constellation. NGC 1073 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 11.3, NGC 1073 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 6 inches (150mm) or more.
