NGC 2216 is a Intermediate Spiral Galaxy in the Canis Major constellation. NGC 2216 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year.

Discovered by Sir John Herschel at the Cape of Good Hope with an 18-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He recorded it as "vF, pL, R, vglbM, 40 arcseconds." The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a 14.0 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads S,BM,STELNUC,RING.
