NGC 2266 is an open cluster [5] of stars in the constellation of Gemini. It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel on 7 December 1785. [6] This is a relatively dim cluster with an integrated visual magnitude of 9.5 and an angular size of 5.0′. The stellar members can be readily resolved with an amateur telescope. [3]

APOD: 2005 March 19 - NGC 2266: Old Cluster in the New …
Take for example this star cluster known as NGC 2266 (item number 2,266 in the NGC compilation). It lies about 10,000 light-years distant in the constellation Gemini and represents an open or galactic cluster. With an age of about 1 billion years, NGC …
We present deep CCD photometry (V 21 mag) in BVRI Johnson-Cousin filters supported with 2MASS JHK data set for the old open star cluster NGC 2266. The cluster’s parameters such as reddening, distance, metallicity and age, etc ..., are derived using two color diagrams in optical and near-infrared bands.
