NGC 3184 is a Intermediate Spiral Galaxy in the Ursa Major constellation. NGC 3184 is situated north of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the northern hemisphere. Given its B magnitude of 10.4, NGC 3184 is visible with the help of a binocular with a 80mm aperture or a small telescope.

Explanation: NGC 3184 is a large spiral galaxy with a small nucleus and long sprawling spiral arms. Although NGC 3184 contains hundreds of billions of stars, the blue color of its spiral arms comes mostly from relatively few bright young blue stars .

At a distance of 25 million light years in the constellation Ursa Major, NGC 3184 is a classic spiral seen face on. Two bright hydrogen II regions, appearing as red knots in the image, were originally described as different objects (NGC 3180 & 3181).
