NGC 3395 is a peculiar spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo Minor. The galaxy lies about 55 million light years away from Earth, which means, given its apparent dimensions, that NGC 3395 is approximately 35,000 light years across. [1] It was discovered by William Herschel on December 7, 1785. [3] NGC 3395 interacts with NGC 3396.

NGC 3395 and NGC 3396, are a pair of closely interacting galaxies that appear to be in contract. Both are in the IRAS catalog of infrared sources, and this indicates massive star formation. However, neither galaxy is a particularly bright infrared object, and thus they have probably not actually collided.

The galaxy pair NGC 3395/6 was discovered on 7 December 1785 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel with his homemade 18.7 inch f/12.8 reflecting telescope in Slough, England. He listed them under the designations I 116 and I 117.

The interaction between NGC 3395 and 3396 has flattened the rotation curve of NGC 3396 owing to the parameters of the interaction. This naturally explains the more nucleated radio continuum structure observed in this galaxy, as significant infall and a subsequent central starburst would be expected in this scenario.
