NGC 4499 is a Barred Spiral Galaxy in the Centaurus constellation. NGC 4499 is situated south of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere. Given its B magnitude of 13.58, NGC 4499 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.

Historical Identification: Per Dreyer, NGC 4499 (= GC 3047 = JH 3397, 1860 RA 12 24 40, NPD 129 12.3) is "very faint, large, round, very gradually a little brighter middle". Physical Information: Apparent size 2.0 by 1.3 arcmin.

NGC 4499 est une galaxie spirale barrée située dans la constellation du Centaure. Sa vitesse par rapport au fond diffus cosmologique est de 4 023 ± 47 km/s, ce qui correspond à une distance de Hubble de 59,3 ± 4,2 Mpc (∼193 millions d'al) [1]. NGC 4499 a été découverte l'astronome britannique John Herschel en 1834.
