NGC 4647 - Wikipedia
NGC 4647 is an intermediate spiral galaxy estimated to be around 63 million light-years away [2] in the constellation of Virgo. [3] It was discovered by astronomer William Herschel on March 15, 1784. [3] NGC 4647 is listed along with Messier 60 as being part of a pair of galaxies called Arp 116; [4] [5] their designation in Halton Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies.
Messier 60 - Science@NASA
2024年8月25日 · In this stunning image, which includes observations taken in infrared and visible wavelengths, Hubble has captured M60 (the large, diffuse galaxy at the center) along with the bluish spiral galaxy NGC 4647 (upper right). NGC 4647 is about two-thirds the size of M60 — or roughly the size of the Milky Way galaxy — and is much less massive.
Hubble image of galaxy pair Arp 116 | ESA/Hubble
2012年9月6日 · This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the peculiar galaxy pair called Arp 116. Arp 116 is composed of a giant elliptical galaxy known as Messier 60, and a much smaller spiral galaxy, NGC 4647. Astronomers have long tried to determine whether these two galaxies are actually interacting.
APOD: 2016 January 28 - Elliptical M60, Spiral NGC 4647
Spiral NGC 4647 is estimated to be more distant than M60, some 63 million light-years away. Also known as Arp 116, the pair of galaxies may be on the verge of a significant gravitational encounter, though. M60 (aka NGC 4649) is about 120,000 light-years across. The smaller NGC 4647 spans around 90,000 light-years, about the size of our own ...

2012年9月6日 · The peculiar galaxy pair is called Arp 116. Arp 116 is composed of a giant elliptical galaxy known as Messier 60 (or M60) and a much smaller spiral galaxy, NGC 4647. The faint bluish spiral galaxy NGC 4647 is about two-thirds of M60 in size and much lower in mass – roughly the size of our galaxy, the Milky Way. M60 lies roughly 54 million ...

NGC 4647 Location. NGC 4647 location is 12 43 32.542 (R.A.) and +11 34 56.89 (Dec.). They are celestial equivalents of Longitude and Latitude. The right ascension (longitude) is the angular distance of an object along the celestial equator from the March Equinox. As a rough guide, the March Equinox is located in the constellation of Pisces.

Astronomers have long tried to determine whether these two galaxies are actually interacting. Although looking at them from Earth they overlap, there is no evidence of new star formation, which ...
M 60(NGC 4649), NGC 4647(銀河・おとめ座) - orio.blog

2002年4月23日 · The M-60 - NGC 4647 pair makes up Arp 116, and is classified by Arp as one of his "Elliptical and E-like galaxies close to and perturbing spirals." Arp noted that for NGC 4647 "Absorption heavier on spiral side away from Elliptical galaxy." Many astronomers think that giant elliptical galaxies like M-60 form when two or more smaller galaxies ...
