NGC 5291 is a system of interacting galaxies in the constellation Centaurus. It is surrounded by a collisional ring, containing a young and star-forming tidal dwarf galaxy, [ 2 ] where dark matter has been detected.

1979年9月1日 · NGC 5291, previously classified as a peculiar elliptical, is the brighter of an interacting pair of galaxies in the western outskirts of the IC 4329 cluster. New deep direct plates show that the pair are flanked by complexes of H II regions which extend 4 arcmin to both north and south; NGC 5291 is classified S0+ on the new plates.
