NGC 6438 is a Lenticular Galaxy in the Octans constellation. NGC 6438 is situated close to the southern celestial pole and, as such, it is easilty visible for most part of the year from the southern hemisphere.

NGC6438 is a lenticular galaxy i.e. possessing both spiral and elliptical properties also classed as having a ring. NGC6438A is a ring galaxy where some deformation seems to have occurred. Some reults seem to suggest that this may be an interacting triplet, however the system is too complex to determine accurate data.

NGC 6438 and NGC 6438A are a pair of interacting galaxies in Octans, less than 5 degrees from the south celestial pole. NGC 6438 appears to be an elliptical galaxy, while NGC 6438A is distorted and may be a ring galaxy seen edge-on. NGC 6438 is visible in an 8" telescope as a small dot, but a 12" or larger is needed to see NGC 6438A.

NGC6438 is a 12th magnitude lenticular galaxy in the far southern constellation of Octans. Measuring about 1.5' across and located at a distance of approximately 100M light years, it displays a noticeably brighter core but is otherwise appears fairly structureless. Of more interest is its immediate neighbour, informally referred to as NGC6438A.
