De serie NS 6300 was een serie tenderlocomotieven van de Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) onder te verdelen in twee deelseries, bestek 6301-6310 en bestek 6311-6322. Het grootste verschil tussen bestek 1 en 2 is dat de laatste een verhoogde kolenbak heeft. De eerste deelserie werd in 1930 door Henschel & Sohn in Kassel gebouwd.

NS 6300, the SD40E class unit, brings up the rear of a smoky 534 upgrade through Portage. NS SD40E 6300 pushes on the rear of 642 East. These helpers were tacked on the front of a westbound empty auto rack train, seen at Wegley Crossing.

De door ingenieur W.A.C. Pont ontworpen tenderlocomotieven uit de serie 6300 waren de laatste nieuwbouwserie stoomlocomotieven van de NS. De locomotieven waren ontworpen voor het kolenvervoer van de Zuid-Limburgse kolenmijnen naae het westen van Nederland.

Zelfs de bewering van de toenmalige NS-directie dat de 6300 de zwaarste tenderloc van Europa was, werd door Martin en Remmo met voorbeelden ontkracht. Ondertussen werd van de stokers het uiterste gevergd: de vuurkist was zeer gulzig. De NS bleek weinig oog te hebben voor de werkomstandigheden van het personeel.

The NS 6300 is a steam locomotive class of Dutch Railways (NS) produced in two body versions. The difference between the frame 1 (units 6301-6310) and frame 2 (units 6311-6322) is that the latter has its coal tender volume increased.

When the 6300 hit the metals in 1930 it was the heaviest single frame steam locomotive in Europe. Their main task was hauling coal trains in the hilly area of South Limburg.

Track improvements had added two tonnes to the permitted axle loading and the new design by WAC put the larger bunker load on a bogie. Its max rated speed in either direction was 90 km/h (56 mph) and its rated load was 1,800 tons at 60 kph (37 mph).
