The EMD GP18 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors, Electro-Motive Division between December 1959 and November 1963. [1] Power was provided by a 16-567D1 16-cylinder engine which generated 1,800 horsepower (1.34 MW). [1]

Most of the NS GP18's ended up having a very short lifespan compared to most EMD GP units. They were built in 1963 and traded in by Southern to EMD in 1985. They also stand out from almost every other EMD built low nose unit by having their low nose turned into a high nose by Southern after they took over the original NS.
