NS has completed assembly of its first Rail Power Technologies RP20BD three-engine switcher. NS assembled the unit at its Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, PA from a kit supplied by Rail Power, using former NS/SOU EMD GP38AC #2824 as a donor for the frame. The unit has been painted and numbered NS 100. It is currently in Altoona.

NS rail train #910 was dropping rail near Front Royal today. They were working on main track between Asbey and Virginia Inland Port. I didn't get to see them putting off the new rail, But they had NS 702, RP-E4C roadslug as one of the locos. First time I got a picture of one of these First picture is 3075 and 702 at Front Royal station

Since NS is pushing quick restoration of the Asheville - Newport line, NS must see the potential for resource development in the Asheville area. Also restoration has some benefits with public relations because NS cannot be seen as kicking the online towns to the side. By stabilizing the roadbed, at least one side of the towns can be rebuilt.

We saw what appeared to be a rail-grinding train coming into Andrews yard on the NS in Columbia yesterday. Couldn't really tell if it was one or not(it was dark out at about 18:20 hrs), but all of the running lights were on and it certainly looked liked it was a rail-grinding train size.<g> It was definitely some sort of Maintenance of Way thing.
