The EMD SD80MAC was a 5,000 horsepower (3.7 MW) C-C diesel-electric locomotive. It was powered by a 20-cylinder version of EMD's 710G prime mover, and was the second diesel locomotive by GM-EMD to use a V20 engine, since EMD's SD45 series.

2024年12月16日 · The "MAC" designation of the SD80 means two different things. The "M" regards the locomotive as featuring the now standard wide, "safety" cab that has been a common feature on motive power since the FRA mandates its use in the early 1990s.

Until recently NS has restricted their 80MACs to coal service between Altoona, the South Fork Secondary, and Shire Oaks in western Pennsylvania, but with declining coal shipments in the area, many are getting out on the road. With all existing SD80MACs now under one banner, NS has plans for a future rebuild program for the famed units.

1 天前 · SD80MAC's Retired....NS has retired and sold its former Conrail EMD SD80MAC fleet of 29 units (NS 7200-7228). Six of the units, 7206, 7215, 7218, 7225, 7226, and 7227 were sold to Canadian Pacific Railway.

CSX and Norfolk Southern have since acquired these units. The behemoth SD80 can generate up to 5,000 horsepower. To date, there have been three production "versions" of the SD90. The production version Kato has chosen to recreate is the 4,300 horsepower 9043. Union Pacific, by far, operates the largest fleet of SD90 units.

2012年9月9日 · Just added this NS SD80MAC because my NS fleet lacked big power. This model has been around for a little while now but still holds up fine given it’s price tag. There are no additional skins or opening doors but there are cab lights, walkway lights, illuminated number boards and it will consume sand and diesel.

2 天之前 · It is with great sadness to announce that Progress Rail has scrapped all 23 of their ex-NS SD80MACs as their engines have been used for boats, despite vigorous efforts from the Conrail Preservation Society. There are currently six remaining SD80MACs under CP Rail ownership as they are currently parts units for the CP SD70ACUs.

2017年2月10日 · Evidently the SD 80 rebuilds that NS is going to do, either in Altoona or Muncie , the HP is being bumped up to 5500. Lots of speculation on the cab but nothing definite yet. A lot of different opinions on the project too. Bad as O gaugers. The engines will be SD80ACUs.

Both models feature excellent molded plastic bodies, smooth-running mechanisms, and numerous add-on parts that modelers once considered superdetails.

KATO USA has just released new SD80MACs in HO Scale. There is one road number in CSX, NS, and CONRAIL. The CSX is Dark Future and the NS is Horsehead. They are shipping at the end of June. NS 5050: Southern Style on NS H76.
