The NSU Fox was intended to set the direction for modern NSU motorcycle production. Its compact yet powerful 4-stroke engine made the Fox look like a "real" motorcycle. Conspicuous was the modern central clamping frame, which was much more suitable for large-scale production that the conventional tubular frame.

The Fox became extremely popular due in no small part to its performance - 85 km/h made it the fastest machine in the 100cc class at the time. It was also very reliable, economical, and easy to maintain.

The NSU Fox was the first entirely new design motorcycle after World War II. The Fox used a 98cc four stroke engine which was very new, as most motorcycles built before World War II used two stroke engines.

Here’s one of the few examples that made it over to the US, and it looks good! The Superfox featured a 123cc 4-stroke single cylinder engine that produced 8.8 horsepower.
