These units were classified as SD45M's by EMD, had single control stands, plow pilots on the front end and were not financed directly by the N&W. The second order of SDP45 (the SD45M's 3654-3668) were returned to their lessor in late 1985.

The SD45 is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive class built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1965 and 1971. It has an EMD 645E3 twenty- cylinder engine generating 3,600 hp (2,680 kW) on the same frame as the SD38, SD39, SD40, and SDP40. As of 2023, most SD45s have been retired, scrapped or rebuilt to SD40-2 standards.

EMD SDP45 - Wikipedia
It was a passenger-hauling version of the SD45 on a stretched locomotive frame with an extended, squared-off long hood at the rear, aft of the radiators, giving space for a steam generator for passenger train heating. This steam generator placement followed the pattern set by the SDP35 and SDP40.

4 天之前 · It depends on what you consider an SD45. Many (probably hundreds) of SD45s which were rebuilt to SD40-2 specs are still in service. I have no idea how many original, 20-cylinder, unmodified SD45s are still in service, but it has to be a pretty small number. Can't be more than 10 or 20. The SD45 had a great renaissance from about 1995-2005.

9020, SD45m, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1969, #34825, as SP 9090, Class EF636-5. It was sold in July 1990 to Chrome Crankshaft and rebuilt as MPI 9020.
